THE ABDUS SALAM INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS

On November 21, 1997, the ICTP will change its name to The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in honour of its founder, Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, who died on November 21, 1996. The ceremony will be the centrepiece of the Abdus Salam Memorial Meeting, which will take place in the ICTP's Main Building between November 19 and 22. Among the dignitaries planning to attend the meeting are: Rexhep Mejdani, President of Albania; Hans Blix, Director General Emeritus of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); and Adnan Badran, Deputy Director General, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). There will also be three days of scientific meetings highlighted by technical presentations by some of the worlds pre-eminent theoretical physicists, including Michael Green of Cambridge University; Nathan Seiberg of Princeton University; Cumrun Vafa of Harvard University; and Spenta Wadia of the Tata Institute. Scientists, staff and students are welcome to attend both the ceremony and conference. For additional information, please contact Anne Gatti at gatti@ictp.trieste.it.
