The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics begins the new year not only with a new name but with a new calendar of scientific activities. The calendar kicks off on January 12 with the 3-week School on the Use of Radio for Digital Communications in Developing Countries. This year, in addition to the usual menu of scientific matters discussed at the Centre, the ICTP will hold its first-ever School on the Mathematics of Economics, which is designed as a primer in economics for physicists and mathematicians. Overall, the Centre's 1998 Calendar includes more than 30 schools, workshops and conferences. Four ICTP courses will be held abroad-in Colombia, Viet Nam, Ghana and Argentina.
