FAROUK IN SPACE
Farouk El-Baz, a former member of the ICTP Scientific Council, will soon see a youthful image of himself on the silver screen-and so will countless others. El-Baz, who worked with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) during the space agency's lunar Apollo Program in the late 1960s and early 1970s, will be portrayed by a young Arab-American actor in a series of films being produced by Home Box Office (HBO), a U.S. film production and cable company with millions of subscribers. The series, titled "From the Earth to the Moon," will be aired in the spring 1998. Its producer is Tom Hanks, a two-time Academy Award winner who starred in the blockbuster film, Apollo 13.
