Some 35 activities are listed in the Centre's preliminary 2001 Scientific Calendar that is now available on the web (http://www.ictp.trieste.it/www_users/calendar/cal2001.html). ICTP's first 2001 training and research activity, beginning 11 January, will be the Tenth International Workshop on Computational Condensed Matter Physics: Total Energy and Force Methods. As always, next year's activities' calendar will cover a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from laser spectroscopy to climate change, from superstrings to neurophysics, from desalination technologies to protein folding, and from non-accelerator astroparticle physics to earthquake prediction. Activities to be held outside Trieste include "Strings 2001" in Mumbai, India; "Southern Africa Regional Modelling Workshop" in Cape Town, South Africa; and "Regional Course on System Simulation and Hardware Synthesis Using VHDL" in Latin America (the site will be chosen later this year).
