Einstein in Space

“Einstein in Space” will be the subject of a public lecture by Ignazio Ciufolini, an associate professor of physics at the University of Lecce. The lecture will take place at ICTP’s Kastler Lecture Hall, Adriatico Guesthouse, on Monday, 14 March, at 5.30 p.m.
Ciufolini, who earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, previously taught at the University of Trento and the University of Rome. With theoretical physicist John Wheeler, professor emeritus of Princeton University, he wrote Gravitation and Inertia, a seminal text on general relativity that the American Association of Publishers named the best book in physics in 1995. Ten years later, Ciufolini’s article in Nature included the first accurate experimental verification of the anticipated effect of general relativity, a verification that had remained beyond the grasp of scientists for 80 years. This discovery will be the focus of his talk.
Ciufolini’s lecture is the first instalment of this year’s public lecture series, jointly organized by ICTP and Immaginario Scientifico. The lecture will be in Italian. All are welcome to attend.
